BRIAN J

Brian J is an artist who defies description because he’s gifted at so many aspects of artistry in music. He was recently nominated for a Grammy for his roll as producer and musician on Cedric Burnside’s hill country blues album Benton County Relic. Brian J has released five albums and played around the world with his funk band Pimps Of Joytime. The 2022 release of “Reachin’ Up” showed that Pimps of Joytime under Brian J’s leadership is only getting stronger. In 2018 J launched a guitar drenched world funk project called Gitkin. The debut album Five Star Motel received great reviews and solid streaming numbers. 2023 he will drop the third full length Gitkin album on Antifragile Records.
Brian J is an artist with superhero powers—he has the ability to be a one-man-band in the studio, and an inspired band leader on stage, playing his guitar with swagger and style, and soulfully singing with powerful baritone and falsetto voices.
Over the last decade Brian J has produced successful albums by Cyril Neville, Bernard Purdie, Corey Henry, James Andrews as well as Grammy nominated album, Benton County Relic. When you hear the music that Brian J creates, it’s immediately understandable that he chooses to split his time between Brooklyn and New Orleans, because he so easily creates a gumbo that seamlessly draws from blues, soul, Latin, funk, and African styles. “I am just getting started” states J when asked about his career as producer. “I love being a front man on the road but working with artists I love, creating timeless albums is just so rewarding. I have 5 albums in the works over the next year and half. Looking forward to doing the best work of my life.
